From 1988 until 2013, the Society held a picnic in the Shakespeare Garden, Bois de Boulogne on May Day each year.
Unfortunately, in 2014 the Ville de Paris introduced excessive restrictions for the location – a requirement to lay a temporary dance floor on the grass, strict conditions regarding ticket sales, and a special insurance provision. As a consequence the event became unviable, and we have been unable to enjoy what has always been a relaxed and enjoyable afternoon since.
We very much regret this change of policy by the Ville de Paris, and although we have tried in vain to start a dialogue with a view to resolving the situation, until now we have had no success. Our arguments continue to fall on deaf ears but we are determined to continue our fight.
